What will your day look like?
Join us at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø at 9:30 AM to begin your adventure at Tromsø’s husky farm. Your knowledgeable guide will greet you and accompany you to a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, where you’ll embark on a 30-minute journey to the wilderness center that houses the husky farm.
Once you arrive, you’ll meet the experienced puppy handlers and learn all about the center, which is home to over 300 Alaskan huskies and their offspring. You’ll discover the amount of time and effort dedicated to training these dogs, with the goal of participating in dogsled racing. Summer is a critical time for introducing the puppies to the teamwork and skills necessary for sledding.
During a guided tour of the dog yard, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the youngest sled dogs, ranging from 4 weeks to 6 months old. After a brief introduction, set off with the handlers and puppies on a 1- to 1.5-hour hike through the stunning wilderness surrounding the farm.
As you wander through the picturesque fell sides, you’ll learn more about the skills required to become a star sled racer. Your participation is highly encouraged as the handlers put the puppies through their paces with training exercises based on their age. Observe the puppies as they take off on runs, watch as they learn to work together, and assist as requested – it’s a wonderful opportunity to bond with the pups.
After your time in the great outdoors, head back to the farm and bid farewell to the pups. Enjoy a hearty lunch at the wilderness center, refueling with traditional Norwegian dishes before settling back into the vehicle for your return trip to Tromsø.
